A cocktail best consumed with a grain of salt

This silly little collection falls in the category of "so bad it's good". No, it's not Vince Guaraldi, it's not Nat King Cole, and it sure as heck ain't Bing Crosby. But it is pretty darned funny, with lots of winks to various heavy-handed musical styles. I especially like "Sleighride" which alternately evokes the theme from SWAT and Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass. Every time I listen to it I just crack up. Very reminiscent of the Dr. Demento genre. If you like Spike Jones and and any of the Golden Throat compilations, you'll like this one.

At first blush, this is a very appealing little martini. The packaging is pretty cleverly designed, colorful, and complete with two recipies for holiday-themed beverages.

Unfortunately, after the first cut, you'll probably want to call a taxi and call it a night.

From the second cut on, I was greeted with sappily cheery voices reminicent of the Chipmunks on cut after cut. Then came the 1970's funk guitar chakka-wakka-ing all over the place, on what I had hoped would be a straight jazz/swing CD. In fact, the title song is very Osmond-like, or something you'd hear on a forgettable episode from the last few seasons of "Love Boat". Well, Isaac would retire from bartending if he had to sit through that cut! Same goes for "Space Age Santa".

There are a few good tunes, but this music falls more into the "annoy-the-hell-out-of-you" style rather than the "bringing-out-genuine-Christmas-cheer" style. I don't think it could even be good for background music at a holiday party.

Sorry, Jaymz, but instead of a candy cane, I think you'll be finding a lump of coal in your martini on Christmas morning!
