Product Description
A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, but a little false knowledge can truly cause problems. This witty, accessible reference dispels most of our cherished "truths"--in such areas as animals, art, science, medicine, food, and history.

A cute read-- in a wireless world

This book became useless the instant the internet became a reality.
It is essentially a fun-to-browse collection of mistaken beliefs. Under each chapter heading, there are one-liner fallacies and one-to-two paragraphs of facts correcting the falsehood.
In the genre of trivia and "fun fact" books, the concept of correcting fallacies is a decent hook, and the execution is professionally handled. This is more than can be said for many subpar books in the genre, which are essentially creatively (and not so creatively) cobbled lists of facts that purport some greater purpose than fleecing you of your hard earned dollar. The lack of research and rampant sloppiness is evident in many of these books, while Moore seems to have done his homework.
The writing is decent, but not special enough to warrant choosing this as a source of information when there are so many websites that do the same thing better.
If you want something to read away from the computer, this can be a nice, light entertainment that will leave you wanting to share your new found knowledge.
