An oldie but goodie

I purchased this book years before I was a licensed massage therapist. The pictures are somewhat basic (drawn nudity is shown) but the techniques learned are very straight forward and picked up with little practice.
I DO recommend this book as I have come back to it several times since becoming licensed. If I was bored or in need of a little different "style" change in a session, I would just flip to the section and off I go.
Worth the money for a good, not a lot of crap, on stuff you need if you want to be able to give a massage and not the "why why why" as to what is happening to the body during the session.

I came across this book in a thrift store about 20 years ago, and since then have given out many copies of it. I went on to study massage therapy, and later was self-employed as a Licensed Massage Practitioner. I had many textbooks on massage therapy, but still referred many people to this book as the best I'd ever seen. It does not go into the technicalities of blood flow, nerve paths, naming bones, or muscle identification, but it does tell you how to give an excellent massage. I believe that Give is an important word and emotion in any of the healing arts. An added bonus in this book are the plans for making your own massage table. I am so glad to see that it is still out there and available to both the layman and professional.

I have a read a lot of books on massage and in my opinion this is the best general book on the subject, despite the lack of glossy photos and other special extras that often don't add much value when push comes to shove.
This book emphasizes techniques, how to connect different sequences to each other and important general principles. In a short space, it gives you what you really need to know to give a great massage.
The specific techniques presented are the most important ones and they are explained clearly. After reading this enjoyable book, you will be able to give an excellent massage with confidence in what you're doing.
